Day136

Hiked Franconia ridge today. Super short day mileage but some real brutal ascents and descents. With full packs again and the heat, it was not very fun. Tons of bugs, even well above the tree line. The views were pretty good at least. Lots of people out and we still got done pretty early, even with a lot of lounging at the various peaks on the ridge.

We’re staying at Garfield shelter site. Met my first south bounder here, Epic. This is an Appalachian Mountain Club site, so we all have to pay 10 dollars to sleep outside. It is not that much nicer than the other shelters I think but New Hampshire people will do crazy things it seems. We considered pushing to a hut, but the bunks at the hits cost 180 dollars, and we were quite fried.

Sleeping in my hammock for the first time in over a week. Tomorrow is 15 to Ethan pond, with slightly easier ascent than today, but I am still hoping to get up early in case it’s somehow filled with NH bullshit.
