Very hot today. I got up at 4 and was on trail by 5. Figured I had about 3 or so hours before the heat really set in.
At 10 miles in there was a crossing of a highway and also an MTA station that in theory could have let me finally escape to New York.

There’s a food truck there that wasn’t open yet, but a deli a little ways down was open, so I stopped in to cool off and get some food. I was looking at possible road walks while in the deli and found one that gave me an idea.
The road walk added an additional 2 miles compared to the trail, but it passed through the town of Wingdale. Wingdale had places to stop into to cool off, and also had a post office. I mailed back some smaller cold weather clothing I’m sure to never need again. I also mailed back my quilt. Three whole pounds dusted from my pack. I still have a liner and some layers if it does actually get cold again (it will not).
Managed to get to the shelter by about 3 PM. It has decent shade at least.
Tomorrow is the day we pass by Kent. I probably will regret this decision but I do think I’m going to push to at least Great Barrington. A lighter pack might make enough of a difference, and it is supposed to cool off slightly for a few days before jetting back into the 90s.
