Day105

Slept thru my alarm to make it to sunrise. Notyet woke me up and told me he didn’t feel like doing it anyway and was going back to sleep. At this point I was already up though and felt like I may as well start chipping away at the day while the weather was good.

Weather was real good. Made it to sunrise mountain before 6 am but the view honestly kind of sucked.

Kept pushing though. Big landmark today was the NJ highpoint. Stopped by the park office nearby to throw away some trash and grab a snack.

Made it to the highpoint observation deck by noon and observed the highpoint. A trail did lead to the actual highpoint but I didn’t feel like taking it and the high point in NJ is not very high (~1700 ft).

Then it was mostly flat nothing into town. I got in at about 2. Burning 20 miles before 2 pm felt pretty good but I’ve been doomscrolling the next couple days on farout which is giving me anxiety. Tomorrow is a big swamp walk and then the NJ “stairway to heaven”, a big climb I’ll probably have to do in the afternoon heat. The next day is the beginning of NY which includes a bunch of gnarly scrambles including the “agony grind”. The day after is even more NY scrambling including the infamous “lemon squeezer”.

We are staying at a hostel in Unionville NY, so I did technically cross into the state today, but we don’t leave NJ forever until tomorrow. It has been a solid state overall I’d say.
