Notyet pulled into camp last night a bit before 7. He’s been hiking with a flip flop hiker named SlimJim who also showed up and was chill. We caught up and chatted for a bit. Their plan was to hit Branchville in 7 miles at around lunch and eat at a tavern there and then move on. I was down for it.
Got up early this morning because the sun rises early as hell now and I figured if I got into town before things were open I could at least doordash a resupply topup, so that’s what I did. Notyet and slim Jim showed up at around 11, we got lunch and some drinks and chilled by a very nice lake with a fake alligator in it.
Ended up staying way later than expected just chatting and drinking and looking at the water and charging all our stuff. Slim Jim had someone picking her up to take a couple days off but NotYet and I had planned to go 11 more miles originally. We decided that since it was already 6 we’d just do the 3 to glen Anderson shelter.
Tomorrow we are gunning for a 20 to the next town. There’s a hostel there that is supposed to be solid but we’re also getting up early to hopefully catch a sunrise at what we’ve been told is a super iconic spot in NJ, so if the hostel doesn’t work out we should have plenty of time to push past if needed.
It is nice to be hiking with Notyet again and he said he’s not trying to push any crazy miles soon, so I may be able to keep pace for a while, and if Slim Jim is able to catch up we could have a solid group. Very chill people out here.
