Really didn’t want to leave town today. Guess I was just dreading the rocks and everything else after the last stretch, which was pretty brutal. Went down to the lobby to get breakfast and ran into Van Gogh and a few others and they talked me into at least getting out and getting to eckville shelter, which everyone was jazzed about because it is basically in some guys yard and so has outlets and plumbing.
The 14ish to eckville were pretty easy. Heat had died down considerably but it was raining a fair bit. I waited at eckville for a while and chatted with folks for a while, but there weren’t really any hammock spots on the caretaker’s lawn. A bunch of people were pushing 7 more miles to another shelter since it was pretty early. I considered it but it was still pretty wet and looked like a rocky climb, so I decided to bail into a campsite off the trail.
Tomorrow should be dry, and I want to push as hard as I can towards Palmerton (about 24 miles out) as the next day is going to be pouring all day and in the 40s, so it sounds like a good idea to avoid the rocks that day if I can.
Saw a cool salamander today.
