Road walk out of Duncannon was kind of nice. Stopped at a truck stop and got some gas station breakfast and a sandwich to eat at a lunch break.
Then the heat picked up and everything went back to hell. The rocks are starting to pick up for sure too, but they are nothing compared to the pain of the heat. It feels like my vision is 40% just a cloud of bugs, even after soaking every piece of clothing I have in permethrin. The water sources are dry and very spread out so I’m generally carrying an extra 2-4 lbs of water just to be able to move forward. I imagine I’ll be looking at nearby airports within 24 hours as usual (it’s PHL I already know).
Did run into Notyet’s friends from Iowa as they were making their way back home. Feel kind of bad because I was not too talkative and really just wanted to get to the next water source but they are the reason he was slowed down. He’s now quite out of reach after being within 6 miles of me, oh well.
Did not make it to Rausch. It is still 10 miles out (and is the next closest water source, meaning a 10 mile water carry) and the heat has drained me entirely. Still thinking I can burn to port royal by Tuesday morning. The 19 I did today doesn’t put me in a fantastic spot, but gets me closer than the scheduled 11.
Tomorrow morning is night hiking and lots of miles. If I can blast out 28 to the 501 intersection I’ll be in a real good spot.
