Day87

Pretty easy day today. I wanted to check the logbook at the next shelter but mistakenly took a very long side trail for a long time. Wasn’t really in a rush today anyway tho so it was fine.

Ran into Van Gogh at Chimney rock. He told me that a critter of some sort got into his ursac last night and ate his leftover pizza slices. My bear can was unperturbed.

The rest of the day was very chill, although I was listening to “Into thin air” by Jon Krakauer, which definitely elevated my blood pressure.

I got to quarry gap shelter at around 230, which really tempted me to push past, but this shelter site is by far the nicest I’ve seen, holy moly.

It even has a dedicated hammock rig (I let some other guy setup there, hunting for good trees is half the fun).

Van Gogh and a ton of others showed up here, including one of the guys that helps maintain the shelter. Chatted with them a bit and went to bed early. Tomorrow is 17 miles to the official halfway point where I will then have to eat a half gallon of ice cream so I want to be up early. Not too worried about the miles, but I do fear that the ice cream will be the toughest challenge on the trail so far.
