Day69

Woke up this morning with my ankle still in a fair bit of pain as I was walking around to get water. Heat was already building and I knew it was a pretty heavy day of climbs. 2 miles into today was the bailout point if I wanted to go to Buena Vista and past that there isn’t really anything until Waynesboro 50 miles later.

Had to make a decision based on the pain and I chose to go into town. Got real lucky and managed to catch the dropoff for some hikers coming from the white tree inn in Buena Vista, so the driver, Johanna, offered to take me back. The inn has availability for tonight so I’m definitely staying there tonight, and am very likely just going to eat yet another zero as I really want this thing to heal, and taking this zero means I’ll go back out to cooler weather.

Buena Vista is much less of a shit hole than Glasgow. I was able to door dash some leuko, more hydrocolloid bandages, and a light resupply for whenever I go back out.

I suppose I should appreciate being able to be laying in a bed and elevate my foot and rebandage it and whatnot, but I am quite frustrated that I am having to be off trail. Harper’s Ferry feels so close and I felt like I was getting into a real good rhythm as far as miles per day was going.

Adding a pic of the wound below so I can kind of track how bad it was at some point. Warning to any external readers, is kind of gross (as is any hiker foot pic I imagine)
