Woke up at 3 to start the trek towards dragons tooth. Just past it there’s a gas station which I was hoping to get some snacks from (most of mine have melted) and also get something cold to consume. My pace through the morning was pretty close to 0.5 mph, as the AT has become less of a trail here and more of an endless rock scramble sprinkled with 10 foot sections of actually walkable ground.
Saw the dragons tooth, which I regret immensely as it meant more time walking in the heat.
Got to the gas station at 9ish. Kdot and tax collector were there who I’d met before. Kdot is pushing to the final site before Roanoke. Tax collector is stopping at a much earlier site and then getting up early to hit Roanoke. I’m kind of on between, but I may bail with tax as I am already feeling shitty.
Stopped at Catawba shelter with tax collector. It is unbelievably hot. I’ve drank over 20L of water today and I feel probably worse than I ever have in my life.
Need to be up around 230-3 tomorrow to make it to Roanoke before death. I’ll pass the iconic McAfee knob and tinker cliffs, hopefully in the dead of night. They are stupid fucking rocks. I only care about getting out of the heat right now.
17.8 miles tomorrow. 219 am. Or I die.
Also hit the 700 mile marker today. Literally. Someone made one out of pine cones and put it on a rock that I of course tripped over.
