Day49

Fairly breezy 10 mile day to the partnership shelter. This shelter is close enough to Marion that you can door dash/order pizza to it.

We got there before noon and chilled for a bit. This is where I was going to split from the group and go to Marion, while they pushed forward towards Bland VA. I gave Notyet the rest of the food I had since he was starting to run low.

Said my goodbyes to the group. They are great people and insanely good hikers so I’m sure they’ll make it to Maine by June or whatever. My best wishes to Lucky Charm, Notyet, and Graham, it was a blast the past 200ish miles.

Tried to Uber from the trailhead and a guy in a pickup pulled up and offered me a ride into Marion. Not sure if this really counts as hitchhiking but it got me into Marion.

I’m staying at the General Francis Marion Hotel, which is a big historic building that looks kinda cool, but Marion is mostly like the other trail towns. Main Street with some stuff on it, and a grocery store that is like a 2 mile walk.

Sucks to be out of the group but I think it was the right call. My feet are still in rough shape. Unsure if it was the higher mileage or the new shoes I have being stiff.
