Slow day. Slept in a bit. It was pretty hot and my lower back is starting to hurt I think from the extra food weight.
Apparently 1 mile south of where I camped last night a wildfire has broken out. I didn’t see or smell anything, but the trail was pretty empty today and according to the email I got a bunch of roads are closed. There’s a section of detour due to Helene damage, but I didn’t take it as Preacher had told me it was fine. It did end up being fine mostly, but there’s still some wild destruction.

Got to Clyde Smith shelter pretty late, expecting to be the only one there, but I could see from the distance that someone had started a fire. Turned out to be Preacher. We chatted a bit, and a guy named Lucky Charm showed up. He’s a chill guy. Got his name because he ran across a couple dying bear cubs a few weeks back and called in to get them rescued. He’s doing like 25 mile days tho so I probably won’t see him again.
Tomorrow is either 12 or 16 miles depending on how I am feeling, then next day is a hostel day before burning into Hampton. Then hopefully a few short days to Damascus.
