Felt weird leaving after 7 but daylight savings time exists and is dumb. Slept kind of shit for some reason. Chatted a bit with one of the auburn kids in the morning. He liked my hammock and said my peregrine’s were “fun”. Apparently the next shelter north from us was slammed with spring breakers and there were 40+ people fighting for spots.
Hiked up to Kuwohi and the views were crap, but highest point I’ll be at for the year, and 200 miles.

Hike thru to Newfound gap was harder than I thought it would be, but not horrible. Was very rainy, very cold, and I slipped on a rock pretty hard and have a gash in my elbow now. Still think this section of the forest is real cool looking.

At newfound gap Cammie’s friend Kelly had driven up with some pizza and snacks. I hate taking “trail magic” food because I don’t like feeling like a charity case, but I chilled near by to chat and get soaked in the growing rain. Cammie’s friend just so happened to be driving back south thru Cherokee and offered us a ride tho, which was sick since the shuttle/Uber was going to be almost 100 bucks.
Bladerunner, myself, and a semi-new person in our circle, Upside, are all staying at the Microtel in Cherokee. We are right next to a food lion, so we are solid for resupply, but there doesn’t seem like a ton else to do here other than the casino.
Saw some elk on the drive to Cherokee
Crossed into Tennessee technically, although I have done so probably 6-7 times over the past few days because the trail runs along the border for a while. Fun fact, Tennessee shelters don’t have privys (outhouses), so you can always tell which state you are in based on if people are forced to shit directly into holes in the ground.
