Got up at 5, on trail by about 6. Weather has been slightly kinder today, but still incredibly hot. Passed a couple day hikers who told me that I brought this weather with me from Texas. Not appreciated.
Got into camp at around 1230 and there was a guy just laying in the grass there sunbathing in the 80 degree heat. Guy’s name was grizzly, he has been going real slow, started Feb 3, but he’s real cool. Bladerunner showed up an hour or two later and it was nice to be in a group of people that didn’t care that we were at camp 3 hour before sun down. We could push 6.6 more miles to the next shelter, but it was already hot as hell.
I think I’m going to try to skirt the shelter rule tonight. Found some real good hammock trees and I know that shelter is going to become a sauna. I’m laying in my hammock without any tarp, insulation, or quilt right now. It is drizzling a bit and starting to thunder. Sounds real nice.
There’s horse hitching poles all over the place here. Fuck horses
Spence field shelter. It’s like 0.2 miles off the trail, surely a park ranger isn’t going to walk that far just to see if everyone is in a shelter
