Woke up this morning and none of my shit was frozen which is good. Didn’t seem like there was a ton of wind last night but I popped a stake somehow. Coyotes were real loud.
Bladerunner said his knee is going bad and he might be dipping in Franklin to go get surgery. Will be sad to see him go but better to be safe with something like that.
Hike today was cold, icy, rainy, snowy, and now that the temp is above freezing it is incredibly muddy. Makes having the hammock quite nice but in an effort to get it all setup ASAP in the rain I think my foot end is a couple inches too high.
Went over Standing Indian Mt today. First peak over 5000 ft which is cool except there was no view really. Of like anything at all. Just pure fog and snow and ice pelting me from the trees.
Tomorrow will be 100 miles and the last stop before Franklin. The original plan was to shuttle in, resupply, and then hit the trail again but I do think I’m going to stay the night there now. Weather here so far has started to chip away at me and I want to put a little more time between now and the smokies, and a private room with a shower after 100 miles seems nice. It does feel like weakness and I will be sad to see the group split, but it was going to happen sooner or later.
