Today is the first zero day I’m taking. It is not supposed to get above freezing until tomorrow and tons of people (many much more experienced than I am) are bailing. Folks at around the bend hostel are great, we have a nice fire going in the common room and most people are just chilling and chatting.

Took a shuttle into Hiawasee with Ty, Bladerunner, Notyet, and Stitch to grab some resupply and gear. Stitch is a cool one. Sewing together their own pack out of scraps of other packs and items from free boxes and thrift stores.

This was the first real taste of actual civilization in a while. I nabbed probably too much food, a sun hoody to hike in so I’m not hiking in my sleep base layer all day, and a sleeping bag liner so that I’m hopefully not as cold. Also grabbed a ton of Ziploc bags, which I very much regret not bringing from home.

Lots of free food and nice people today. Hiawasee really loves hikers I guess.

Completely forgot that I have been out here for over a week now. Still don’t feel totally adjusted to this but am starting to get into some of the rhythms. Tomorrow we’re doing a 12 mile to Muskrat shelter including ~4k feet ascent which might kill me.

Backwards city has this place instead of HEB

Another shoe tree (lore is that when people quit they throw their shoes in the tree)

Pretty nice view from the shelter
