Odd day today. Was supposed to be a real easy 7 mile breeze to blue mtn shelter, and it was. But we all got there around 130ish, and decided that rather than sit around and be anxious about the next day’s 15 miles, 4000ft ascent, 4000ft descent, we should try to chip away at some of it with the remaining daylight.

So we went 4 more miles to Rocky (Balboa) mountain where there is a small campsite. That 4 miles was a 1500ft descent into unicoi gap (where I nearly got pasted by a mustang going 80), followed by an immediate 1500ft ascent. Both were pretty brutal. It’s the top of a mountain so naturally there’s not any water here. We filled up everything at the closest stream 600ft from the summit but bladerunner had no room in his pack for a full water bladder so I carried his up too as part of my ongoing effort to turn my shoulders into a fine dust.

We are stopping on Sunday to do another resupply and hopefully dodge a part of the cold snap, so I committed to eating a horrible stew made out of all the heaviest things in my bear can. Hoping this gives me some kind of strength for tomorrow and lightens some of the load. Hopeful, but still not feeling super chipper about whatever happens tomorrow.

Ultra scuffed hammock hang since I couldn’t find trees at quite the right spacing.

Bag of slop. Need it out of my bag of crap I have to carry.
