Bailed.

Knee was still feeling v bad walking up to the head of the park. May have been persuaded by well wishers back home but I ubered back to the start and drove back to Austin. Ultimately I failed what I was hoping to get done but I figured out a lot of things close to home that I am glad I did. Uber driver told me “back in my day a lot of hikers got shot on that trail”, so I will count my blessings.

Went Well

  • Hammock, warbonnet XLC, is so good, easy to setup and the best sleep in my life honestly
  • Bear can as a stool actually owns
  • sleep system as it stands is v warm, it got below 40 and I was sweating

Went Shit

  • Shoes wayyy too small. My feet are trashed and I do think this was a contributor to the knee fuckage, have already ordered a new pair. Maybe feet swelling or socks or maybe I just suck at moving.
  • puffer had me overheating in minutes even in 40 degree weather, and was a pain to pack and kinda heavy. Was nice to have a good for sleep tho.
  • I am def too ambitious on mileage, I can do 20+ in a day I guess but right now I’m paying for it hard
  • Lot of things I think I can cut from the pack for weight. Food was heavier than it needed to be. I have way too much leukotape. Given the warmth I may want to tweak the pad/quilt. Bear can is kind of a pain but I want to commit to it.
